Design Competition Part 2- Final

Here is my final piece for the Derwent Art Prize 2013.

This competition's deadline is July 1, 2013.

I created many different drawings using pencil, and I decided that this one would be my final piece because the butterfly looks like it can pop off the page and I like how the symmetry in the wings came out.

This competition was to use only pencil for the piece, (water -soluble, graphite, pastel, color pencil or charcoal).

Here are a few sketches I've done that I would enter into the competition, you can enter a total of 6 drawings into the competition.

Artist Statement- M01

Art has always been a part of my life ever since I was young. I can remember my mother always making such creative crafts and inspiring my sisters and I to explore different mediums and materials to create unique pieces of art. This influence has helped me grow as an artist and has inspired me to continue my education into becoming an Art Therapist.

My reasoning behind wanted to become an Art Therapist is because I love to work with people and help people. Having the opportunity to combine the two things that I love, Art and helping others will give me the ability to not only work with all different age groups; but also help those explore different types of Art mediums and work through their emotional, behavioral and mental health conflicts as well as sensory problems through using different art mediums through traditional sketch, painting, and collages.  Now that I am also learning Digital Art, this will help me to grow not only as an artist but also will help me to grow as a therapist and introduce digital art to patients in the future.
